For over 100 years Sea Scouting has promoted better citizenship and improved members’ boating skills through instruction and practice in water safety, boating skills, outdoor, social, service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage.
The primary difference is in emphasis. Sea Scouts are indeed part of the greater Scouting movement, with a particular emphasis on boating and other water-based activities on the sea, rivers or lakes (canoeing, rafting, scuba, sailboarding).
Yes! Conditions apply. Merit badges, badges of rank, and Eagle Palms may be earned by a registered Boy Scout or a qualified Venturer or Sea Scout. He or she may earn these awards until the 18th birthday.
Absolutely, 100%! Sea Scouting is for young men and women ages 14 to 20.
Sea Scouting is available to young people from the age of 14 through Sea Scout Troops and Explorer Sea Scout Units. In the Scout section, Sea Scouting may exist as a Sea Scout Group, or there may be a Sea Scout Patrol within a typical Scout Troop. Explorer Sea Scouts can be found in Units.
